WoodWing's Integration with Adobe DPS: What's changed?
As announced via a joint press release and Adobe's own DPS Blog, WoodWing's Tablet Publishing Solution is now going to integrate exclusively with Adobe's DPS system. Common questions from current and prospective customers are: What's next? Will WoodWing's Tablet Publishing Solution be a carbon copy of Adobe's?
We are happy to reply: No! There are several areas where our expertise in software design enhances and simplifies the traditional DPS workflow.
First off, our DPS integration primarily occurs in the last step of the publishing process. Rather than producing an .ofip xml file, we'll be producing a .folio file and be uploading it directly to Adobe's DPS system. Our Creation Tools (the tools you use in Adobe InDesign) will continue to be supported and developed as time goes on. This means that customers can create slideshows, scrollable areas, and hotspots like they always have with the added bonus that they can use Adobe DPS features side-by-side with WoodWing's. And Widgets will now work with Adobe's traditional DPS system.
Our publishing system, Enterprise, also means that users get a true workflow solution with access privileges, automated metadata tagging and automated preview generation rather than the stock DPS installation of a folder-based workflow and various dialogs that have to be filled out by the user.
Some of the DPS benefits coming to our Tablet Publishing Solution include: immediate upload to the DPS system rather than the manual process previously used by our CDS platform, previewing of content directly within InDesign along with an easier preflighting process on tablet devices, and, of course, the availability of Adobe Omniture analytics in a dashboard interface.
The integration of DPS into our existing Tablet Publishing Solution will not be without its challenges, but it's certain that both existing and prospective customers will benefit from the transition.
