Feature Highlight: Editions in Enterprise

Editions are a staple of many newspapers and magazines. Sometimes referred to as “zones,” they are typically multiple versions of a publication with minor changes for advertising purposes, news targeting a particular area, or language-specific editions.

In other systems, users had to sometimes create multiple copies of a page just to accommodate the minor differences. This is where WoodWing’s Enterprise system rises above the competition.

Editions are created in the administrative interface. Once added, they appear in the properties dialog for InCopy and InDesign clients. Users can pre-create content for these editions by simply selecting the proper edition from the list. Then when the article is placed on the page, it appears in the proper edition.

Admins can create editions per Brand.

In InDesign, an Editions panel shows designers which editions are marked to appear in the layout. Clicking on an eye icon will show the page as it appears for that edition. When a frame is selected, check boxes determine in which editions it appears. Switching between editions is as easy as clicking a button.

InDesign users can switch between editions by using a panel.

And with Enterprise’s multiple-place feature, users can put an article on multiple pages and create components that are specifically targeted for an edition. Multiple-language articles can travel as one file and a sidebar intended for a specific edition can travel with the rest of the article.
